I woke up this morning and the wind was howling. When it blows this hard I tend not to ride, but I often check first rather than waste the chance of a ride in. Seeing the trees bending I thought it best to take the bus, its expensive and less reliable but a damn sight easier than getting blown over by a 45mph gust.
So sat on the bus I decided to do the same counting game I did before: lets count cyclists and see what they're up to. Not many ventured out today, I don't blame them, even an experienced rider like me has second thoughts. Of the riders I did see there were only 15 of them. All had lights, only one was in dark clothing (but it was starting to lighten up quite a bit by then). Only one was seen on the pavement but a second glance revealed that he was joining the road from a driveway.
That rider did make me wonder. How many cyclists are witnessed at a glance in such a situation and presumed to be pavement riders?

I rode to work this morning. TWICE! Frustratingly a pair of colleagues had gone sick at a site in the complete opposite direction to the office I'd just ridden to. On the bright side it did mean I could take advantage of a mammoth tailwind at some points :-)
Again not many other riders spotted but I did put that mainly down to missing the usual rush hour.
